Hello! I’m Sami, Designer & Doula based in Cornwall.

Yes, it’s a bit of an unusual combination but it sits harmoniously with the way that I work and I am so thrilled to share this journey with you.

Following over 10 years of design work and a dedication to slow fashion I have felt not only an unwavering need to create with purpose but a huge pull to contribute further within my Cornish community. An alternative desire to build a hybrid business that draws upon true emotion, service and responsibility.

In order to create, one needs to be inspired and given time to process that inspiration into an outcome. Creating is something that will always be part of me. It is how I function. However there was a gap and a pull towards supporting something raw, beautiful and what I feel is massively overlooked within our culture - The support given to a Birthing Person and their family.

A step out of the design industry to focus on Doula training has been the best decision I have made. Broadening my learning and experience whilst nurturing my creative desires has overwhelmed me with an energy to share, contribute and join an incredible network of doulas here in Cornwall.

Pregnancy, Birth and the transformation into parenthood is possibly the biggest and most important passage many individuals and families will venture into. I’m here to celebrate and support this sacred time offering empathy, encouragement, knowledge and support. Holding space to enable birthing individuals to tap into their intuition and find their purpose, potential and their power!

I am Red Tent trained Birth & Postpartum Doula with experience in traditional postpartum care including a focus on the first 40 days, traditional nourishment, herbal remedies, massage and esoteric traditions including wrapping and closing ceremonies.

Alongside this work and my continued path of learning I illustrate and design product influenced by my experiences with the families I work with.

DESIGN

My artwork evolves from my ongoing investigations into the power of plants and herbal potential as well as an affirmation focus which feeds into the unique resources I offer through my doula services.

The inspiration for my garments stem from a passion toward wholesome, balanced living and community. I am driven to create product that carries emotion and can be worn with comfort, craft and consideration. My work as a doula teaches me the power of our senses and how the objects in our lives, particularly during transformative times, become entangled and part of both experience and memory.

My garments evolve from a process through illustration and product development ensuring the quality, fit, feel and practicality of a true Sami-k item is maintained.

Organic fabrics and sustainable components are sourced here in the UK from small family-run suppliers with garment circularity and longevity at the heart. My organic fabric supplier works with a small family-run mill in Kerala, India to produce premium fully GOT’s (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified hand-woven fabrics. I transform these fabrics into products from my home studio in Cornwall.
